How long have you been at the company?
I have been with the company since 2001. I started off as APAC Regional Finance Manager and became Financial Controller when Singapore was selected as the location for our first Alpha MMA site.

Describe working for the company in three words
Dynamic, opportunity, teamwork.

What do you do in your role on a day to day basis?
Financial management of the business/reporting to stakeholders/ensuring compliance in relevant areas/guidance and development of team members/providing guidance to colleagues/peers in relevant areas.

What has your training and development been like?
Training has been varied and a plentiful, from role requirements to soft skills. I’ve been fortunate enough to be given personal coaching to further enhance my coaching skills and the development of team members. One interesting program that I attended, over a duration of 5 months, was the Mitsubishi Chemical (MCC) global leadership training program. It was an enriching experience in that we got to better understand the MCC organization through working with other trainees on the program on a challenging project. I have also attended training relating to other functions such as SHE and 5S and found them very useful.

How would you describe the work environment and culture?
I would describe it as an open-door environment. It reduces barriers of miscommunication and improves trust. The “no blame culture” is great as people are more willing to put in initiatives and not afraid to make mistakes. Teamwork is prevalent.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
What I enjoy most is the level of interaction and opportunities we have with many members of the group in many areas. It has been heartening to see fellow colleagues from the group coming to work together to achieve success, such as the first Alpha MMA project in Singapore and now Alpha 2 in Saudi Arabia. I have many good mentors and colleague who are always willing to share knowledge. I am always learning from them and they have helped develop in many ways.

What advice would you give to somebody considering applying here?
The company is an equal opportunity employer. If you are willing to learn and give your best shot, the opportunities and rewards can be limitless. Embrace the values; do not be afraid of hard work, nor afraid of challenges (they are always there!). There are plenty of opportunities to learn and grow within a dynamic organisation.
